In other words, how to completely destroy the Buchla paradigm in one fowl swoop.
Don took pride in releasing his stuff from the bonds of rigid musical structures, so where are we now?

Buchla meet
Re: Buchla meet
Being able to say something different with that difference is a rare skillset.
Being able to say something different with a non-different is as well.

I think the trouble here is that we have words looking for a meaning.

Sorry - pre-morning coffee meanderings.
I was trying to say that some people have the gift of being able to go beyond the boom boom etc with any tools - traditional or not.
I’ve seen Don play a number of times. He would bring his latest creations to a small new music space in Toronto.
Sometimes it was sonically fascinating, other times it was a moment of searching for the magic.

Yes, but you can do that with anything, and they are!
I just don't understand it, if I all of a sudden wanted to produce EDM of any sort, the last thing I'd want to do is give myself all the aggravation of seeking out all sorts of esoteric stuff, when I could just get a copy of Ableton and a few plug-in's and not want for anything. It just seems like I'd be making life more difficult than it need be. Sure use what you like, and loads of modular and crazy gadgets have their uses, but sometimes I look at large studios and think, you know, the essence of this music could be done on an iPad, talking of which, I was listening to a jam I had with t friend recently, and we thought, struth, this is sounding more than interesting, then we suddenly realised it was an iPad we were using, well blow me down.

Exactly! And not only that but not obsessing about using the best gear the right way and just get the thing recorded. Took me a few years to get to the point where the performance is the thing, not a perfect recording of it. A bit of noise, an el cheapo mic, an imperfect room? I don’t care. I’ll do the best I can with what I have and then work with that. Sometimes I learn more that way.

You are so right about performance not gear, my god, did I learn my lesson very early on, I was recording my late adopted mother, she was 99 years old, and I wanted her to talk about her lifer as a teenage farm worker in Kent between 1905 and 1915, he still had the original Kent dialect.
I was using a reel-to-reel, and the levels were a bit low, it was a good take, but I thought I'll just get her to talk about the same things again, and went for another take, erasing what went before, of course, she didn't quite say it in such a moving and explicit way, and we never got that same feel again.
Always keep everything, even the bad takes, you never know, a bit of hiss isn't the end of the world, or a few bum notes, you have to always keep sight of the big picture.
