Could someone sample this, perhaps?
Could someone sample this, perhaps?
This made me smile this morning. Sadly I am a long way from Sheffield and cannot experience this personally, but for anyone in the area, clearly this is a 'must hear' attraction apparently......

To be honest, the recording on that page does have a rather pleasing sound quality

Eccleshall Road, Sheffield, Co-Op's freezers give off a drone-like hum reminiscent of an Eno-esque sonic landscape...
I pasted the Video link with its audio:

Our local Co-op just gives off a sad aura of decay.

No it doesn't. It just forces you to accept cookies if you wish to view for free.
(Which isn't necessarily a good thing, but is happening everywhere now and independent publishers do have to fund their efforts somehow!)

Yeah, I like it. Atmospheric, certainly. For some reason my brain started singing the Theme from Harry's Game over it

Unless the Elf has used up his number of free articles already?
(I think the Guardian still has a limit?)

It doesn't have a limit for me. Just begging pop ups that can be dismissed. (Hit the wrong button and it'll take you to a pay page though.)

Marks & Spencers fridges often do this, my local one is a good example. I've yet to capture a recording of it that is free of human noises.

If I get a chance I'll nip over with the hand-held and share some samples!

Same with me, as soon as I see such a page I press the Back Button. That being said I bought something on the internet the other day, and I only use a few on-line retailers, and sure enough the following day, more junk mails came
flooding in, despite clicking 'reject cookies' etc with the usual "Ukraine Teens, Cloud Account Blocked, MacAfee Subscription Renewal....etc' and yet I have had absolutely nothing to do with any of the aforementioned, now associated activities.

It's amazing what a large and successful retailer Marks has become, despite its hummmmble beginnings
Re: Could someone sample this, perhaps?
+1
One of the great things about The Guardian is that, unlike many papers, you can easily read it for free. Worst case scenario is clicking a simple acknowledgement.
Re: Could someone sample this, perhaps?
What I find irksome is that we have an almost universally acknowledged concept of 'personal space' which for the main part is understood and respected. So why do web site creators/designers whatever have this notion that a person's digital person space can be ignored?
From time to time I do a spring clean and poke into the darkest corners and find gifs, icons, whatever other files from sites I last visited when dinosaurs walked the earth, and whilst I appreciate they are tiny files, they still amount to as heap of beans over time and are doing nothing but take up space and have an impact on boot times, marginally yes, but uninvited all the same.

I’m waiting for the day when advertisers no longer bother putting ads in tv shows that one can snag out of the air with a cheaply made antenna of some sort. Or tinfoil hat.
It will remind me of the early ad-free streaming days.

An M&S fridge, of course, would produce a much higher quality signal then a lowly co-op one. But of course as you say, first you have to deal with the constant chatter of nearby customers "That's quite enough focaccia, Tarquin dear. The gardener will be over in thirty minutes and doesn't know the gate code..."
Re: Could someone sample this, perhaps?
This is similar to the sound in my local Aldi, I thought about sampling it too, ours has a lot more high frequency content, it could easily make a base for a track.
