Valeton GP-5 -- astounding bang for the buck!

I picked up the GP-5 on the advice of a friend when I told him I want to get the smallest rig possible for jamming/rehearsals.

I'm pretty blown away with this little unit! I've only set up one preset so far, using stock IRs, and it does exactly what I need it to do.

Very cool, Ben. I picked up a GP200 LT, cheapish second hand. Very nice unit, but the GP50 is nicely compact. Valeton have really hit the mark with this series.

Was rehearsing with a couple of friends earlier today - one of whom had got hold of a GP5. He kindly let me use it for the whole session - and it was excellent. Highly recommended!

I’m wondering if there is any noticeable latency when using the cap IRs? I have similar small unit that has great sounds but the latency on cab emulation makes it pretty unusable.

Quoted latency that I have seen is around 5mS, I have the gp200 as a battery powered option for open mics, I have not experienced latency issues and find it an enjoyable unit to play.

...Though you probably don't want to use it in conjunction with another digital pedal as the latencies add up.

Thanks chaps, credit card being assaulted to the tune of a GP-50 as I sit here. The box I have (Leo Jaymz Silverbox) I measured as 17ms with the cab IR switched on. Shame because it's otherwise very good, and used with the the cab emulation switched off and plugged into the FX return or line in on an amp is amazing for the money.

I'll be interested to know how much memory the looper has, realistically I need 90 secs or more but IIRC (I struggled to find out despite extensive googling) it only has about 40 secs even in mono.

You could try playing just over twice as fast. Then 40 seconds would be fine?

I got a gp5 a while back as an emergency back up all in one . Great little box , paired up with an Mvave choco plus pedal to expand the control options
My new monochrome bigger board has a GP50 on , as a result of the GP5’s astonishing value . It’s there partly as a NAM/IR tool , does a great job of acoustic simulator , but also frankly some of the amp models and cab models are worth using , holding their own against other kit on my board including two notes revolt and CAB , . I got the GP50 because it has real midi . So patch control integration is more practical than the GP5 . I have yet to try the looper . At present my entire hardware stock is packed up out of the way while plumbers gut the house for new heating system

Our pedal steel guitarist uses a GP-5 for live shows. I don't know how he has it set up, but it sounds great.

According to the manual - 20 seconds. Google Gemini told me 90 seconds. Maybe it read your post and got confused.

You're right. No mention of a looper in the GP5 user manual.

Not checked other manuals, but GP-200 LT manual says

Recording Time: When “Undo/Redo” are not required, you can select up to 180s recording time.

GP5 no loopy . GP50 does .

There’s also a dedicated looping pedal in a similar package format to the GP50 for the price of a GP5 , it’s called the VLP200

According to the Valeton website, the VLP200 does up to 4 minutes of stereo file loops and can store up to 7 hours of recordings in total.

You were right, that's why I replied directly under your post (had my reply not directly followed it I would have quoted it). The GP-50 has two buttons and a looper plus the ability to load IRs unfortunately 20secs loop time is not long enough.
