Doepfer A-148 Sample & Hold issues.

Post by Arpangel »

I think it’s gone bang, the top half seems dead, it’s awhile since I used this module, and I’m going to investigate later, but I gather that the top half is an SH and the bottom half is a TH "track and hold" as it comes from the factory.
But this shouldn’t make any difference to the fundamental operation, I’m getting predictable behaviour from the bottom half, when fed with an LFO square wave and white noise, but absolutely nothing from the top half when fed with the same.

According to the manual the top and bottom sub-modules are identical but there are two versions of the A-148 and if yours was manufactured after 2005 then you can select either of S&H or T&H for each module individually using jumpers.

The factory default is S&H for the upper and T&H for the lower.

Might be worth checking the jumpers on the back of the upper to make sure they're set properly:

Thanks Eddy, I was going to check, but as usual, the phantoms at Arpangel Towers came into play, I went down there yesterday, fired up the case and it worked perfectly :-|
I’m getting random things happening, like this, attenuators suddenly not completely attenuating, then they do, things stop working.
I'm running two Doepfer cases, well within their power rating.

Maybe the module took a voltage hit and wigged out a bit?

Damp? Corroded connectors? User error?

Damp? could be, also, related, corroded connectors? agreed, but can’t find any right now.
User error? as much as I’d like to complete the trio with a resounding yes, it has to be a no, patch, Maths LFO out into Doepfer A-148, 148 out into MR G attenuator, attenuator out into Doepfer A-110.
With full attenuation, I still got SH modulation, I tried all three attenuators in the MR G, all the same.
Came back later, all was fine.
The 110 CV2 attenuator worked, so I assumed it was the MR G that was faulty.
