Hi folks
When exporting rough mixes from Cubase straight to hi-res mp3, should I be dithering the output? Or does the data compression make this unnecessary?
cheers
Dither and mp3...
Re: Dither and mp3...
If the mp3 encoder is an integral part of the DAW then truncation and dithering should be unnecessary.
On the other hand, if the mp3 encoder is a separate program, truncation and dithering to a 16 bit wordlength would be the safest approach.

Thanks Hugh,
I've never been too sure about this. What about Pro Tools HD, where the mp3 export is an added option?
