M1 Macbook Pro’s sound: great! (For non critical listening)

Post by ore_terra »

I’m alone at a hotel room in Oslo tonight, and brought my new M1 Pro MBP 16 instead if the iPad for watching some series before bed.

The thing sounds just amazing. Dont know what they’ve done with the stereo, but I definitively hear stuff from behind the laptop, and much wider than the actual laptop. Plus it has good clarity and insane low end for a laptop.

I can say I’m enjoying the experience of watching series on a laptop for 1st time in my life

Music doesnt sound bad either, but of course not good enough for the average member of this forum

Yeah, there is definitely some artificial widening going on with these things, you do get a soundfield pushed out wider than the speakers. I agree, for a thin laptop, the sound is impressive (although a little bit bass heavy for my tastes) and for a consumer is pretty amazing.

I also agree. It is excellent for watching TV and movies. I'd love to know what the processing is.

Same for my M1 Air, it's my go-to media munching machine now.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

I have a Dell with Waves processing. Does anyone know whether Apple's solution was developed in-house or bought in? It does sound good, but then again I always thought the little iPad speakers were most impressive even years ago.

100% developed in house. They have super specialised audio design teams working on audio for all their products, including home pod, iPads, iPhones and Watches etc.

There's a lot of info about this on their website and in their various keynote presentations.
