Re: Sennheiser HD 300 Pro closed-back headphones
Ears hurt after wearing them a couple of hours
and no chance of finding replacement earpads which absolutely will split after a while - mine lasted less than a year!
Priced way too high for a product that isn't fit for purpose after one year

Well, Thomann and many other dealers still appear to carry them. Why do you think spares will be hard to find?
Dave.

Different brands and types of headphones apply different amounts of pressure to the ears, and some have earpads designed to sit around the pinnae while others sit on them -- the latter typically being far less comfortable than the former over long periods of use.
If you expect to wear headphones for extended periods it is essential to try a variety to find a model that suit your own particular head shape and size and personal preferences!

Replacement Sennheiser earpads for the HD300 Pro are readily available from countless suppliers, as a ten second google will reveal! They cost almost as mush as the original phones, but they are readily available. You can also get less expensive 'compatible' earpads from third-party suppliers very easily.
I've not used HD300s myself, so I don't know how robust the earpads are, but they must be considered a replaceable item, for hygienic reasons as much as daily wear and tear. My daughter uses HD280 Pro phones and the ear pads on those lasted a couple of years with regular daily use, which seems fair.

I've got a set of Sennheiser HD600s that must be well over a decade old and still have the original ear pads, as do my HD25s. Same for my AKG 702s.
EDIT I foolishly googled for the price of HD300, omitting to add the Pro as I hadn't realised Sennhesier would have two HD300 models!

Hugh, the HD300 Pro are considerably more expensive than the HD300.
I have a pair and they’re holding up well. Yes they are tight, but they are designed for good isolation and as such they are bound to get uncomfortable after a while.
The replacement pads are £42 at Thomann, and the headphones themselves are £149.

AKG no longer supply replacement pads for 702's. I've only been able to find third party alternatives on ebay or silly prices from Thomann. I have the 65th anniversary model for which I don't think they ever supplied replacements. Thankfully I didn't pay the original MRSP of £499. Not great though when you consider my sennheiser phones are much older but I can still get any parts for a very reasonable price.

Why do bad things mostly seem to happen to people who light up a room when they enter it?
