My 88 note master keyboard is an old Technics SP-X30 piano (must be over 20 years old now). The keybed is just perfect. A lot of older digital pianos can be picked up for very reasonable prices and if you like the keybed they make excellent master keyboards with the caveat of course that you are unlikely to have pitchbend or modulation let alone aftertouch.
But then there is an argument that you should additionally (as I do) have a 61 note unweighted keyboard for those duties, particularly as some playing techniques like organ glissando are likely to leave you missing a fingernail or two if you try them on a weighted keyboard!.
Blood on the dance floor !
There's a Technics PX44 local to London should anybody be interested.
There was a Gem S2 with polyAT local to London just couple days ago.
Each £100.
Not mine I saw them on a well known auction site and on a tree site. Usual caveats with purchasing used.
I found out that a friend of mine has just bought a CK61. Here's his verdict...
Lightweight, great keyboard feel, great Rhodes sample and acoustic pianos, 3 sound layers each with independent effects and volumes very similar to Nords. But a fraction of the price ! Two versions available 61 or 88 note, 61 is perfect for midi to separate 88 keyboard...all 3 sound zones can be sent to midi keyboard and muted at the 61... !
He's a very experienced keyboard player so I'd say that's a pretty good endorsement.
Edit to add - there's a run through of the CK61 sounds at
