In the end went for some V Moda ones very happy with those and the rest of the band picked them up as well - very clear but knock off the ear killing loudness

If you're looking for a decent pair of earplugs under 30, i would recommend Loop earplugs. I found out about these after an article on WIRED and I've been using them constantly since I got them.

They're design for everything music-related (concerts, festivals, clubs, ...) but I also use them for sleeping or sporting events. They have a 20dB sound reduction. The reason I'm so pleased with them is that they offer different sizes of ear tips. I have a smaller ear canal, so not every earplug fits me.
