rockwool IS safe PROVIDED that it is wrapped in acoustic material such that surface fibre shedding can't take place easily... or at all..... i usually also recommend a light treatment of a dilute PVA solution to fix the outer fibres in place ....
what is this PVA solution I don't I have ever come across it please can you help what is used for and to which store I can buy this stuff ?

It's not widely known that PVA serves the role of resin in emulsion paints. In other words emulsion paint *is* a dilute PVA solution. So just slap on some emulsion paint!
Polyvinyl acrylate glue is also sold as Bondex for, among other things, prepping masonry tro receive plaster and (in my case) providing a gripping surface for rendering 150 year old granite blocks.
Smashing, versatile stuff!
I also use it for woodworking, which I believe was the original purpose for which it was marketed!
Good advice here for when starting out as whatever you can do to mitigate the inherent problems of any room is important. I guess it all depends to what level you expect to take the recordings but to get started definitely worth following most of these points.

I think you mean the ACETATE Ive'?
There is an PV acrylate glue but it seems to belong to the superglue family.

The links are still broken. I remember having looked at them years ago and finding some of the information useful. Is there any chance of resuscitating the links one more time? There may also be some new information from the past few years that we could add.

Zukan, is there any chance of resuscitating the links one more time? There may also be some new information from the past few years that we could add.
Hi Jorge,
I've just waded through the entire thread and edited the links to Zukan's 3-part Acoustic Treatment tutorials. There are a couple of other links to now long-gone SOS forum threads that didn't survive the 10-year cull, but I've amended the text accordingly as well.
Martin, thank you, much appreciated. I had forgotten how very useful the series was, and now that I am upgrading my bales-of-rockwool bass traps to try to smooth out the bass a bit more, I will go through it again.
