Just thought I'd make the point that as of the last SOS meet Yoshimi Pi 003 is spoken for, so I need to think of making another one for this year's Linux Audio Conference.

However making just one is a pain, two is better, but I'd need to make about four to really gain the benefit of a mini production line. So that would leave three left over.

I'm sure at least that number of people have (as they say) expressed an interest. Anyone like to make a firm order?

Incidentally, I'm thinking that Zen should get first option of 007, seeing as he thought of it. Also, if we go with Goldfinger rather than Golden Eye, that means almost the whole thing is golden :)

Place your orders Ladies and Gentlemen. I hereby confirm publicly that I will be putting my money where my mouth is and will honour my bid for 007. Happy to pay up front on request, so do your worst folks, crowbar my wallet open.

How cool. 60 pounds? Can I pre-order one? I know nothing of synths but I've got to start somewhere and it can just as well be yours!

Ummm. That wouldn't cover a third of the materials. I've been asking for £260.

Given you get a pi4, a little HDMI monitor, an audio interface and a power supply plus a little 1-button box to glue it all together it would be a good enough deal even without the fact that it has been pre configured to boot direct to a working instance of Yoshimi.

In all seriousness, it's an absolute steal at £260 and I would recommend it to anyone. Apart from being a unique and interesting device in it's own right, it sounds fantastic.

It's cheaper than many softsynths and can give the best of them a run for their money.

Go on, you know it makes sense!

You'll have to talk to Folderol for the price in kroner, but whatever it is it's worth it. I've got a bog-standard class compliant MIDI interface plugged into mine with the other end in a MIDI patch bay and it all works without fuss. How many synths can you find where the maker will be coming to stay the night next Saturday?

I'm in too. Will, put me down for 006. It's a number (including the leading zeros) that has special significance to me and although I didn't finish my demo track before heading to Wales this week I have been working on finishing it up in my head and just realised how much could be done with two of the little beasties, especially as one of them is 001 :D

... and now I'm sitting here (mug of tea in hand) rocking backwards and forwards with a big silly grin on my face. I never expected anyone would want two.

OK Eddy, 006 will be yours.

I've actually ordered 4 monitors. They come direct from China and usually take 2-3 weeks, but in view of the current disastrous situation over there they may take longer. However, YoshimiPi will work with standard HDMI monitors, so I can still build and test them.

Actually you can make the Yoshimi Pi work with a VGA monitor too, though you do need a special cable for the job. I wanted to use a particular screen with it but it was VGA only, so I found this cable that does the job. It's an active cable, meaning it needs power but it gets that from one of the Pi's USB ports. It works very well. The other two available ports serve the MIDI interface and the keyboard/mouse.

Most of the parts have now arrived for the next batch of these, so I can start building. Numbers 006 and 007 have been pre-ordered, and 003 (already built) is also taken.

So, anyone interested in 004 or 005?

Sorry about this incessant chatter :wave:

Building is well on the way now, with all 4 basic Pi boards fully programmed and tested. I've used 16GB microSD cards on all of these from a reputable supplier. They are actually cheaper than lower capacity cards! I've also now produced an image file that is a direct clone - indeed that's how three of the cards were programmed. So if anyone needs one for 'insurance' let me know. This image has all the latest software, and is compatible with every YoshimiPi so far.
Oh, perhaps I should mention, of that 16GB less that 1GB is actually used, so there is plenty of room for your masterpieces :)

Two of the power management boards are also complete and tested. I've also changed the internal layout to make building easier and give more wiggle room for possible improvements. You'd only notice differences from outside if you put old and new side-by-side.

I'll tackle the cases last of all, and hopefully the screens will arrive shortly afterwards.

I wanna see the (as yet unclaimed) Yoshemi Pi modules demonstrated, shown off, and generally craved. When Eddy buys one you have to pay attention, but when he puts in an order for a second you REALLY have to pay attention. I was there at the South West sausage meet where Will demonstrated Yoshimi to Eddy, and the Yoshimi Pi delivers all of that and far more besides.

HEY!!! I'm a guitarist and I couldn't resist. And I've just downloaded and installed the 64bit Korg Virtual Analogue and Virtual Digital on my new MacBook Pro. I LOVE how Will has elevated a great software tool into a plug & play hardware solution.

Bottom line?

You could spend an awful lot more on hardware that offers a fraction of what Yoshimi Pi delivers. And if you are being perfectly honest, a hardware Yoshimi Pi undercuts a whole load of software virtual instruments.

I have no regrets :)

Will has been very patient, a demo is overdue and I've been a little chaotic but there will be a (fairly meaty) demo of what the Yoshimi-Pi can do emerging later this month.

What with work, various other goings on and the distraction that is the Hydrasynth arriving, the demo has been sitting in a "pending completion" state for a little while but is well in progress.

I'm taking the Yoshimi-Pi to Holland with me, where for the next 2 weeks I will be in completely uninterrupted space with no distractions (other than the usual office hours) during which I'm not just going to finish it, but do a serious attempt at a proper mix as well.

I've been practicing mixing in general, based on a lot of great stuff I learned from Eddie and I think (or should that be "hope"?!) it's going to come out pretty well.

You've hit the nail on the head there Andy! The Yoshimi-Pi is a fantastic deal considering what you get for the money and if there are any available when the demo comes out I hope it persuades some who have seen these threads but not been swayed, to reconsider

I'm also going to show it to a potential customer in Holland in the form of a mate of mine. He has a musically-inclined son who I think would love it.

Had a bit of a surprise today. The screens turned up - from China :bouncy:
This presents me with a bit of a problem. They were actually due next week, and with the situation over there I was rather expecting them to be late, so was taking a fairly leisurely approach to building 004 to 007. Currently, the last two power boards are only half built, and none of the boxes have been prepared.

I guess I'd better get a move on
