The synths are good and the controller is ok.

However, Korg do not allow license transfers for the Legacy Collection. I suppose if you buy the later dongled version you can use it, but if you buy an earlier challenge/response version you'd be stuffed.

Hi Baz

I would say it is a pretty decent emulation. Even for the new price it was sold it was great value. The MS-20 controller is nice and works fine, although for quick tweaks you will probably soon just use the plugin. But if you want to start from scratch or to record automation it is very nice. The plug itself is also great as a audio insert (filter-)plugin.

The original 'analog bundle' comes with the polysix and a hybrid for ms-20 and polysix, too. Very nice. And the wavestation (not so analogue..;-) is thrown in as well. A great synth on its own.

I just had a fiddle with the ms-20 controller the other night and it feels really almost like a 'living' synth. You can even run its 'virtual' headphone output back into it with the patchcord. And it screams and spits if you want it to.

So yes, if you like the ms 20 but do not want to buy the overpriced real thing, go for it. It is probably not really as rough as the real synth, but certainly in the same area.

I run it along many other hw and sw and I truly like it a lot.

Hi,

cheers for the comments.

I have been reading that i will be able to use this as a controller aswell, via midi learn on logic etc.

can anyone confirm this?

I had one of these and it was OK though I got rather bored with it and ended up selling. I reckon the Arturia bundle with a generic controller like a Behringer fader or rotary pack is the way to be.

The controller has fixed midi-CC values so if a plug has the learn function you can use it, yes. It is not very intuitive, though, and as a general controller, it is not working especially well (but you can use it like that if you want to).

The other comment about it being boring: well, as any synth, it can get boring, of course, but let me assure you that the MS-20 has been used by so many artists and in so many ways...it is just down to you. It is a monophonic synth of course and has a distinctive sound of its own. But with its semi-modular architecture it has many many possiblities and you can actually learn a lot about synthesis by using it (using meaning programming;-).

Arturia stuff and many other plugs are great, yes, but I would not say 'better' or less boring than the korgs. Just different flavours :-).

I'd rather have the Korg Analog edition than anything Arturia - the Korg stuff sounds better to me and Korg's voicing team are up there with the best in the business...

Check out the demo to see if you like it.

make sure you get a later version with the Synchrosoft dongle if you want intel compatibility.. otherwise you can still upgrade, but it'll cost you about £65 or so for the dongle and upgrade(or was last year when I upgraded mine).. you do get the Mono/Poly plug-in as well for that so worth it.
As far as VA synths go, I think thess are definately some of the best out there.. sounds very close to the originals.. certainly does to my ears and I would challenge anyone to be able to spot the difference in a mix

For me it's brilliant, the software and the hardware but unfortunately I dropped the synth and it fell backwards onto it's USB plug(cable still in) and trashed the USB board inside the unit rendering it broken. I have been in touch with Korg who tell me I can get a new board for £15 but I am not sure my soldering is that good. Pretty gutted as I miss using it. It also works on other software synths which is handy ;-)
