Cubase LE - Quick One

Post by bonde »

Hiya

Have started using Cubase LE and the programme informs me that after 01/06/09, I will no longer be able to use it unless I register myself as a user online.

I don't actually have my laptop connected to the internet but I am assuming after this date, I will have to uninstall the software and then re-install to continue using it without registering online.

Is this correct? Or after this date will I lose all use of the software forever and ever?

Do you have a serial number you stick somewhere in the Steinberg site to get a response code?

Alternatively go directly to http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/
and ask em!

iirc there should be an activation code somewhere in the packaging / documentation that came with your Zoom.

yeah, and with the syncsoft registration or something.

i have to warn you tho, i used cubase le4, and when i had to reinstall after a HDD crash, (my fault), i didnt register the software, and like you it said, i had a specific number of times i could open and use the software. IE: like, around 3000 more times,

so, imagine my surprise when i clicked on the icon, with 2960 more times left, and it said, "in order to use this software, you have to register it", well, i tried, and it said, because i had registered it before, that the number i used was already registered, (because i had registered it) confusing i know. i tried to go and get a new registration number, but.....

long story short.

i installed REAPER.

i am not bashing cubase, because, i really did love it when i used it, but, the registration, which i understand they need for protecting thier assets, was such a huge royal pain in the ...... that, i will be using reaper from now on.

so long story short. you should register it soon, or it might just one day be unavailable to you until you register it, and if that comes between sessions, it can cause you to sweat. alot.

thanks for the replys

i wont be able to register the software online as i dont have internet access on my laptop and since i will be moving house soon - wont have it any time soon.

i think im gonna see what happens if i never register it and just keep reinstalling from the begginning avery now and then.

if not then i do have other means of recording and editing my audio - just doesnt have such a glitzy interface

thanks again

i dont know if it will be the same for you, but, it DID NOT let me re-install, even after a registry clean.

dont be surprised my friend. i hope it doesnt throw you for a loop, like it did me. but.....

you know, as long as your bases are covered, youre good.

What do Zoom have to say?
After all they pay Yamaha for the software and it surely reflects badly upon them if you cannot use it?

The whole registration/activation/dongle SNAFU is a nightmare basically because people like Steinberg and Magix are scared ****less that 0.001% of people might get a free go! They should work in the REAl retail world and deal with "shrinkage"!

The other week my Cubase E4 would not load. "Can't be a registtion issue" I think "I have a dongle". Wrong! Fekking SYCROSOFT had thrown a wobbly!

The likes of Steinberg, Magix et al live in this wonderful perfect pc(mac) world where nothing ever crashes and hard drives never fail and even if they did they just use their intranet and get activated bish-bish.

I would be interested to know how reviewers deal with new software "for the job". Do they ever have the problems we poor slobs have to put up with or is there a bit of an "old boys network"?

Speaking of networks, why can't the laptop go online, one off, to register?

Dave.

or have an activation code sent to your email account.

you can set up an account with steinberg at the library (its where all the cool kids hang out), with a hotmail account....and then they mail you the digets, you write the number down, and bring it home, and punch it in on your non connected laptop. just bring all the documentation to the library with you, because you will have to tell them the serial number for either the install disc, or the hardware.

i think that works..its been so long for me with cubase, that i cant remember if that was an option or not.
