A VST with an Ableton Live feel!

Post by Big_al »

Hi all,

Is there a VST out there that I can use in Cubase that works in a similar way to Live, ie. triggering midi clips and samples together with a control surface.

cheerz in advance

Hi
I remembered receiving emails about a 'loop-vsti' some weeks ago (I never cared because I use live alongside cubase). After some search I found it again: it is by hgsounds and called 'black magic'. I fear it goes a bit in a different direction - but probably best if you check for yourself anyway (it has a demo):

I use NIs Battery 3 to trigger clips, only audio though. It can work pretty well, even quantise timing and works with REX loops as well as standard audio.
Apart from the lack of MIDI clips it also doesn't do some of the fancy 'play this one twice then go down two, play once, go to top then play last and stop' stuff. It can be set to play once, play until key off, play indefinitely until key a second time, etc
I trigger the cells using my Korg padKontrol or my keyboard and it's a great way for me to drop in noises and effects as well as triggering loops at the right time.
