49SL MKII: transposition problems with Logic instruments

Post by nhirst »

Hi,

This'll be my third post trying to get my new 49SL to work with Logic. Novation customer support have been great but apparently the latest issue is a first, so I thought I'd give this a crack...

Basically, I've got the EXS24 and ES2 templates loaded onto the SL and working; I've also got a transformer correctly set up in the Environment (thanks to Neil at Novation for the walk-through). On paper, this is how you use an SL MKII with Logic 8.

Now, though all the controls work, the keyboard seems to play about four or five octaves below where it should. The SL itself will only transpose up four octaves, and the EXS24 (for example) will only go up a short way too, meaning I effectively lose out on the very top range.

In any case, I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be happening. Anyone had anything similar? Any workarounds? Failing that, anything I can do in the environment to provide a kind of invisible multi-octave transposer? Pretty sure it can be done but a brief trawl through the Logic Pro manual left me none the wiser.

Thanks.

Not sure what's going on, but on the EXS channel strip you can set the transposition.

Engage the reveal triangles.

Doesn't work.

Or at least, that transposes within EXS24. But also creates a cut-off point on the keyboard - at E2 if I transpose up +36, or E1 if I transpose up +24.

Presumably the EXS24 has a minimum midi note it will recogonise.

Which confirms I guess that the problem lies with the SL MKII.

Also makes me worry that there may not *be* a solution at all...

figured it out.

thought i'd post in case anyone else has issue.

for some reason all 3 logic templates were set to transpose down 64 steps. this was within the "quick menu" on the sl mkii itself.

sorted.

now have to figure out how to make exs24 work smoothly. for some reason the midi through tool has started playing up...
