Howdy
I bought a Sennhesier E906 a while ago, but keep finding myself preferring other mics to do it's job, so was wondering what you all have found it good on?
I wanted to use it on guitar cabs, but just ended up using a 57, or both, then ended up turning down the 906! But this has really only been for metal, maybe it is more suited to lighter rock or clean tones?
I hated the sound on a snare, again, I find the 57 better.
I bought it after using it on a kick drum, but have not actually got around to doing this again. Anyone got any good results?
Thanks for letting me know what you guys think, I do not want to end up selling it! But am not getting many good results!

The 906 is my preferred mic for guitar cabs, but then I do jazz and rock rather than metal, so it probably hasn't got the 'cut' you're looking for. I love the way it gives a smooth full sound. I wouldn't use it on snare as I'd be looking for more bite.
As usual it's horses for courses.

I don't know how similar it is to the old MD409 (which looks the same) but that was a great mic. I like it on guitars, but also for male vocals. Some people use them for toms.

Thanks for replies! If you're happy with it for smoother guitar tones, I'll try that next time rather than jumping straight for a 57!

We used to have the predecessor (409 rings a bell) but, like you, I never found it very useful. However, a couple of other engineers that worked at the old studio used it regularly - so this is probably a love it or hate it mic.
However some people may think that substituting an HD400 earpiece in its place is a little strange - but it often works for me.
