Isolated Tracking Headphones

Post by Jonny Duddle »

Hi,

I have been tracking happily with some crap CPC "Drummer Headphones" (http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/displayProdu ... 2-00001000) and have been very happy! For 15 quid, little leakage, great isolation, and even though the sound isn't great, I am quite happy with them. However, they are on their way out (after quite a bit of use too!), so was looking to get a new higher quality pair.

I read the SOS article on headphones, and a lengthy forum search, and saw the likes of Beyer DT100, or Sennheiser HD380's, but these do all seem a bit expensive, seeing as I was quite happy with a 15 quid pair!

I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for tracking headphones, I know they do not have to sound great, and do not care about that, I really just want some that have little leakage, good isolation, comfy and at the right cost.

Or, is it really worth the investment in a more expensive pair, the Sennheiser cheaper HD280's seem to be okay too, and if so, are these a good one to get?

Thanks a lot

If they're just for you, you already seem to have your answer. If they're for many musicians, that's when the ruggedness and replaceable parts — and for some, of course, the sound quality — become more of an issue.

They aren't just for me, but no one has complained so far! I also use them at my bands practice, so did want something comfortable I could wear for 6-7 hours, which I could not with the CPC ones! I ended up buying a pair of Sennheiser HD380 Pros, for a good price of 90 quid, so I'll see how I get on with those.

I'll probably get another dirt cheap pair too, for musicians to throw about.

Thanks for the reply anyway, but if someone does want a cheap pair of isolated headphones, the CPC ones do a great job!

I have had a pair of Beyer DT 250s for the past century now and they have never let me down.

Had mine well over 10 years and if they ever got destroyed (maybe eaten by an escaped circus hippopotamus or some other such unfortunate mishap) then I'd replace them with the same model. SOS Review
