Best allround condenser microphone?

Post by Lennart »

Hi guys,

I am creating a small portable recording kit with a 4 track appogee interface and a handfull of microphones. I am going to travel around with this kit and will be using a pelican case to fit cables, microphones, inteface into; therefore space efficiency is highly prioritised.

Because of this I am not going to go with condensers (one stereo pair) that needs a shockmount, but condenser microphones that uses `regular` mic clip.

It would be ideal with switchable polar patterns, and the price would be ideal if it is below 1000$ dollars a piece.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Perhaps you could give us a clue as to what sort of stuff you intend to record?

Stampeding antelopes on the Serengeti................... singing frogs in the wilds of Macedonia.................. Appalachian Mountain Hillbillys........ Traffic on the M25?

As your location is "Victoria" I assume you are in Australia and are talking Australian Dollars ???

I think gear costs a lot more in Oz than it does elsewhere - so - as your mic. budget is quite low I would look at the local Australian brands of Beezneez and Røde to get the best value.

Do you know, I'd never heard of Beezneez mics (to my shame) so I had a casual click on that link. Imagine my surprise when I noticed the "ladyboy available" announcement after paragraph 2.

Some sites work better than others on the phone screen.

Good point! Overlooked that essential part.

I am looking to record accoustic instruments: strings, wind, skin, vocals.

As far as the price is concerned, i can stretch up to $1200 Aus.

Any ideas?
