Hi SOS, I'm a new musician looking to get information about PA for live performing.
I was thinking about getting a better phantom power adapter ( i currently have the USB Dual Pre by Art) because someone at a PA store said the ART preamp didn't seem good quality.
So I was thinking about the
AKG MPAV phantom power adapter + a minixlr to xlr converter work to work with the shure beta 98 h/c microphone (xlr connection) that i'm hooking up to my flute.
I also saw this upcoming AKG battery powered phantom power supply - http://www.prosoundweb.com/article/new_akg_b48_l_battery_power_supply_offers_more_than_20_hours_of_condenser_m/

Question:
What is the difference between the Art USB Dual Pre, the AKG MPAV, and the upcoming AKG B48 L, for the application of using it as a battery-powered phantom power supply. The real use of this is to plug into a battery powered guitar amp, so it can be used for live performances.
Battery powered Phantom power supply differences
Re: Battery powered Phantom power supply differences
I can't comment specifically on any of these, but one thing to be aware of is that some of the portable devices and those that run from a 9/12v wallwart do not deliver standard 48v phantom-power.
That's no problem if your mic is designed to run on less than the standard 48v. However, if your mic expects 48v it may still function on less than that, but with compromised performance.
Some of these DC-operated units only manage 36v phantom. I recall that ART state that explicitly on at least one of their units, but other manufacturers are less precise.

Is this for busking? Wouldn't a dynamic mic make more sense?

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.
Re: Battery powered Phantom power supply differences
I already have the shure beta microphone, and the art-pre usb, which works fine as a phantom power supply. Im wondering whether or not the other phantom power supplies are "better", and if so, why.
Re: Battery powered Phantom power supply differences
What PA system are you using (battery powered presumably)? It's unlikely that you'll notice an improvement changing your phantom power unit with most busking PAs.
I'd be looking to make the system as simple as possible so a dynamic mic would reduce the box count and you can buy an absolutely superb dynamic vocal mic for much less money than the AKG phantom power supply.

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

Rewind a bit. What are you wanting to do, what do you currently have, and in what way are you dissatisfied with it?
If the kit you have works to your satisfaction, don't buy anything else until you've a reason to be dissatisfied with it. FFS especially don't buy anything else from some joker in a shop giving you the "oh no, you want to spend £XYZ on this which I'll get oodles of lovely commission on"!

I don't disagree with what's been said, but would point out that the O/P is currently using a Shure Beta 98 H/C - not a vocal mic.
