Logic Pro X Automation Zoom Issue.

Post by Guest »

Recently when showing track automation in Logic Pro X - either by key command 'A' or clicking the automation icon - the amount of zoom has changed and I am unable to adjust it back to my preferred level. I have always had the amount of zoom set just enough to view a larger file image before it splits into stereo view. However now when showing track automation Logic zooms a touch further to actually show the stereo view. I have tried readjusting the size with the vertical zoom control, but when I come to view automation again it has reset itself to the stereo view once more!

Any help with this would be very much appreciated - it is driving me bl**din crazy! Thanks :headbang:

If I am understanding you correctly:-

If you manually vertically resize a track by dragging the bottom edge, then that takes precedence of the default zoom level.

So try resetting the zoom level on your track. See the key commands:

Individual Track Zoom Reset
Individual Track Zoom Reset for All Tracks

Let me know if that does what you want..

Also, check out the various "Zoom" key commands by typing "zoom" into the search field of the key commands window. You might want to save and recall the various custom zoom settings and other useful things...

Thanks Desmond. Yes when viewing automation by pressing 'A' or clicking the icon the region expands to a size where the file is viewed in stereo (as a result the actual view i have of the individual wave forms is halved). I then need to resize the region to a size just below the stereo view threshold (this only takes one incremental click) using the vertical zoom slider in the top right of the arrange window. However after closing the automation view and reopening it it has once again reset to the stereo zoom level. This is only a very recent issue, for years this has simply worked as expected?? It's driving me mad...what has changed?

None of the various 'zoom' key commands had any effect. Upon reopening the automation view it had aways reset to the stereo zoom level. Thanks.

Ok, just got around to having a look at this.

Just checked in LPX only: LPX seems to store two sets of individual track zooming, one for automation off, and one for automation on. This is good! :)

So, if you haven't already, assign "Individual Track Zoom In" and the corresponding "Out" to your keyboard (I have this on my command + up and command + down cursor keys.

Turn automation on, and use the key command to get to the automation zoom size you want - just before a stereo file is displayed as two waveforms, in your case.

Then turn automation on, and use the same key command to zoom your track sizes to whatever you want. You should find that the automation size has "stuck" to where you want it.

Let me know if that works for you.

(If you have random tracks set to different zoom amounts, you may want to use the "Individual Track Zoom Reset for All Tracks" command first...

In some additional tests I found this a little flaky using the gui version of that command (option + drag on the lower edge of a track), the automation mode would go to zero (showing both waveforms) rather than -1 as set (keeping the single waveform) but haven't tested exhaustively to check the behaviour in all combinations of different zoom settings...

That's brilliant thanks Desmond. This worked exactly as you described on individual tracks, which is great. I was wondering though if you know how I can do this for all tracks on a global basis as obviously when use the key command 'A' to view automation it zooms all tracks not only one? Thanks for time and help with this, it is very much appreciated. I simply can't understand why this issue has reared its head in the first place! Thanks.
