Best choice of mics

Post by ryanthegecko »

So I want to record 3 people with two mics (Mackie satellite)I will be purchasing two mics with this setup in mind but would like to have versatility.

First option: a matched pair of Rode NT5s(crossed, no particular focus)
Second: A sm57 directed at vocals and a Rode NT2-A in omni or figure 8 between guitars

Any glaring oversights or obvious alternatives?

Hi, ryanthegecko, welcome to the forum.

I think a matched pair of the Røde NT5 will probably be your best bet. Use in ORTF.

I agree with the NT5 pair. I also am a great proponent of ORTF as it is very useful. I use it for drum overheads all of the time. It is my absolute favorite overhead mic technique.
