How to connect to euro-type inputs on behringer ZMX8210?

Post by Kevin Nolan »

Hi,

Im interested in using the Behringer ZMX8210 8-3 mixer as a sub mixer for audio ( synths) routing in my project studio but notice that its connectors are Euro-type Connectors.

How can I connect 1/4" Jack plugs into Euro-type connectors?

I know absolutely nothing about Euro-type connectors and and wonder if this is possible, if anyone has done it, and how?

I see some euro-type to phono connectors on amazon.com but their details are vague and Im not sure they suffice.

Thanks,
Kevin.

Get some jack leads, cut one end off and use a small screwdriver to wire to the terminal block (You sometimes see these connectors referred to a 'phoenix connectors' after a major US manufacturer of such things, I have no idea where the Euro thing came from as they are somewhat more common on US kit.

Usually you will find the terminals labeled something like +,- & Gnd which get wired in the obvious manner.

Note that these mixers are intended for fixed installation, I have my suspicions about how reliable they will be if toured (Beyond my normal suspicions about that brand).

Audiophiles use phono leads because they are unbalanced people!

Thanks for taking the time to reply so comprehensively - appreciated.

This won't be moving - it' will be permanently in place in a 19" rack.

I want to avoid a DIY solution as you describe, and am looking for ready purchasable adapters (14" or Phono to Euro-Module Inputs) so if any one knows of any it'd be appreciated.

Its a pity Behringer chose Euro-module connectors - it's a very nice mixer otherwise (especially the 3 output buses).

Thanks.

Mostly Retired from Audio.... If I already know you I'll help,  if not....    Ask Hugh Robjohns, unless that is you're in need of 80's shred guitar... that, I'm still interested in having fun with...

Actually for its intended market (Installs behind bars) the phoenix connectors are a great deal quicker to terminate then XLRs would be (Plus no soldering), and as it is not something that is ever going to be fiddled with by anyone other then an installed sound contractor they make sense.

Cloud, Rane, folks like that all make similar things with the same connectors.

Agree that 'B' and 'good mixer' are concepts that should not be seen together.

I've never seen a Phoenix plug with anything except screw terminals. If Behringer don't supply plugs with the unit you'll have to source them yourself. Canford have them. I don't think Maplin do.

Connecting cables to a plug in the way they're designed to be connected is hardly a DIY bodge!

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.
