I find these superb sounding headphones make my ears and head too hot!
Any recommendations for an open backed replacement? (leakage isn't a problem for my normal studio monitoring and mixing use). Same sort of quality and approximate price?

Very happy with my DT 990s but they're 250 ohm so you'll need something capable of driving them properly. They're not as bass-heavy as the ATH-M50 which I regard as a good thing, and they're much more comfortable even for hours of use.

I can't think of many open back phones in that sort of price range. Perhaps the AKG K612? They have a broadly similar sound I think.

Thanks very much for the recommendations. Best of all, most of them are readily available for purchase! Given that comfort is the issue, I can't imagine there being anywhere I can try a pair on however. It's interesting that the open backed designs have quite a bit of padding these days, unlike the comfy, light design of my old Sennheiser HD445s.
