Blue Frog Audio

Post by cmoorebiing »

Hi guys,

I read the Master Handbook of Acoustics and have since been trying to work out the best cost effective solution for my room at home.
I think after contacting various different places that it's between Blue Frog Audio and GIK Acoustics (I'm OK at DIY but I don't really want to go that route as I work full time in another industry).
Does anyone have any experience with Blue Frog? I'm having trouble tracking down reviews that aren't on their website. The guy there, Joe, has been veryu helpful so far and seems to be very knowledgeable. It does seem a bit cheaper on the whole than GIK.

Thanks,
Chris.

I got Joe to make me some panels a while ago. Great service and value - highly recommended.

Very pleased with a large wedge I had made by them. I think it was a few weeks in the making, but was delivered on time and as agreed.

I recommend them on the strength of what I've read, their prices, general approach on their website plus they, amongst others, get the thumbs-up (not in any endorsing sense) of Studio Support Gnome of this parish. What he doesn't know about acoustics and acoustic treatment isn't worth knowing!

I'm now a DIY person, but if I was in the market I wouldn't hesitate to go to Blue Frog.

I have around ten 4'x2' panels (5" and 6" deep) from Joe at Blue Frog Audio. Service and build quality is excellent. Highly recommended!

Joe at bluefrog is a good guy.

when odd sizes and weird shapes are required, he's your best bet.

for std panels,
you could also look at EQ acoustics.

Thanks guys.
I'm currently trying to compare products and trying to get my head around absorption coefficient vs sabins.

For example, I'm trying to compare these:

http://www.bluefrogaudio.co.uk/bf%20125.html

At the moment, I'm leaning towards GIK simply because there seems to be similar more extensive test data for all their products and the limited data on only some of the Blue Frog products.

Blue frog products are structurally more self supporting, look cleaner, and have better tension on the fabric to open the weave , which lowers gas entry impedance and improves HF performance.

GIK are nice guys, very helpful to users, and the products seem to do what they say on the tin, and are entirely suitable for the home/prosumer/ lazy DIY market...

but having rebuilt a couple of their products for a client to suit new mounting and purpose, ,

i can't honestly say i'd buy them for myself, or indeed, a commercial client installation job….. the design is clever, but inherently lacks the longevity and robustness of some others. nor can it support the same fabric tension

and again , I say, if you're looking at all the above, for basic rectangular panels, with no clever bits, look in to EQ acoustics…..

the frame is lighter than bluefrog, less structurally rigid, but more so than GIK , , but often cheaper than bluefrog,

the core material is different, and is not bog std rock wool….. , the panels are all made in the UK, and they supply thomann……

and i DO use them (as well as Blue frog, and RPG, and assorted others, as well as making these things myself )

When did you last use our products Max? When we started we most definitely came from the DIY market but that hasn't been the case for several years and we have spent a lot of time and research introducing new products that has moved a large away from that arena and work with some very well known studios and organisations.
Always look at all criticism to see where we can improve (we send out extensive after sales emails and views and collate all this data for just this purpose) so more than happy if you want to drop me an email or give me a call if you ever want a chat
