Edirol UA-25 - no SOS review?

Post by automaton_22 »

I have searched this site and can't find a SOS review of this audio interface. This strikes me as odd. Am I just failing to find it?

That's because there isn't a review of it on this site.

Disappointing for you though that may be, it doesn't strike me as particularly odd. SOS can't possibly review every product in the crowded market for audio interfaces.

I have a UA-25 and I'd certainly recommend it. The only negative I can think of is that you need to disconnect and reconnect it, and relaunch your music applications, every time you adjust the buffer settings. Which is a bit annoying, especially if you're trying to find the 'sweet spot' setting for your computer.

It may be worth hanging on for a while, though, as Edirol is releasing a new upgraded version, the UA-25EX. Perhaps SOS will review that in due course, but for the moment you'll have to be content with a preview: http://www.soundonsound.com/news&NewsID=10185

I too have had one for several years, but have never had the same issue as Comradec - I feel left out now :frown:

Very good device - I guess you may be able to soon pick up the outgoing UA-25 for a bargain price.

Well, I don't want to make a big deal of it. I did say it was the only negative.

Looking at the manual again (p50), though, it appears that you don't actually have to disconnect/switch off the UA-25 itself after adjusting the buffer settings. It's only the music software you're using it with that you have to close down and relaunch.

I may have mixed this up with the Edirol FA-101 FireWire audio interface, which I also own and which does need to be switched off and back on again after a buffer adjustment.

I would also add that one thing I particularly like about the UA-25 is the build quality.

It's a very solid-looking unit with a sturdy construction that's well-designed for mobility.

i got one too, its really easy to use and sounds good.

i use it for a home mini set up, with a laptop, usb k/b, speakers and sometimes bring a midi synth home, which that controls also as it has midi out, then i just record the audio back in. i'd recommend it.

incendentally i set up 10 macs with music software for a project, and used a few different interfaces, and this one was easier and quicker than the others to set up, and didn't have any issues.
