They've been around for years but I rarely come across them.
We have a few looms in work with them on one end and 1/4" jacks on the other. They come in handy every now and again. Quality seems pretty good. They're much longer than normal XLRs though so make sure you've enough room to plug them in :thumbup:

And yes, it works extremely well. I have half a dozen on cables with TRS plugs to make instant sex-changers. The design is ingenious, but they can be fiddly to wire up if you don't follow the instructions precisely!

And yes, they are physically quite long which might limit their use in a few specific applications.
