Akai MPK etc copies/knock offs?

Post by Raffspeed »

Hi folks,
I am looking to buy a couple of cheapish midi controllers for my daughter as she is showing some interest in creating electronic musak.

I seem to remember that when the AKAI controllers were released (MPK etc) there were some knock off/copies that were basically the same but without the proprietary software included? However I've been looking on the web for them but as I've forgotten who made them I can't seem to find any details...

Is there a chance that someone with a better memory than myself could point me in the right direction?? Yes I realise that they are bodges, but aside from just using them out of the box, I am a wee bit of a tinkerer and I would prefer to be playing around with the cheaper option if possible??

Many thanks,
Raff

Hi there

How many keys? There are lots of keyboard controllers that can do pretty much what the MPK series can do. A basic 49 key controller with full size keys can be had for around the £120 mark. Probably get a 25 key thing with mini keys for half that with a bunch of buttons and knobs thrown in.

If it's just for midi, there's lots of choices. Korg micro pads for one...

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Hi again,
Sorry to be resurrecting this thread but I didn't seem to get the answer I was looking for last time. I am not looking for a controller that has similar functions to the akai mini midi controllers, I am looking for ones that were actual copies of them. I seem to remember they were released around the same time but without any of the proprietary software. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough with my my question??

I would really appreciate any help as it has been driving me kinda crazy lol...

I tried again to find something related to this and I may have struck lucky after all. I think the ones I had in mind were the worlde panda ones. heap of shit by all accounts so I'm looking for an akai or something similar instead.

Cheers
