Recommend Analogue Saturation/Preamp plugin (non iLok)?
Recommend Analogue Saturation/Preamp plugin (non iLok)?
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a VST plugin that can add some analogue saturation/preamp emulation to my mixes.
What would you recommend that doesn't use an iLok dongle?

I use IK Multimedia's EQ73 and Saturator X a lot. I like 'em.

Decapitator is good and currently on sale - $199 -> $49

You don't need to discard iLok software just because you don't want a dongle - these days iLok software can usually be either done with a dongle, or a hard-disk authorisation (which doesn't require a dongle) - your choice.

Decapitator is great, and I also use SoundToys' Radiator a lot for this.
FabFilter's Saturn is really cool, too, but it takes a bit more setting up.

I second the Soundtoys plugins already mentioned, the Klanghelm plugin, I think it’s called something like SDR22 is also excellent and extremely affordable. I often like it more than decapitator.

Many thanks. I can pick up Soundtoys Decapitator for $44 from JRRSHOP which seems like a great price. I’ll definitely try the demos of the recommended suggestions.

I have both, and like them both in different scenarios, but Klanghelm's SDRR is an absolute steal at 23 Euros!

Thanks for the replies. I am looking to use something on the master buss to add a little analogue warmth.

A bit of lower mic EQ boost might be all you need for 'warmth'. Don't be convinced by all this talk of analogue 'warmth' as being something that can be defined and added to a mix.
Many people bandy the 'W' word around in the same way that spiritualist charlatans use the word 'energy'.

I use them all the time. Highly underrated.
I also have Decapitator which I think is excellent but for me Saturn reigns supreme along with SSL's X-Saturator (that damn Harmonics dial has changed my life).
I am really getting into IK Multimedia's Clipper.
