Hi there!
Has any one tested Newmann's TLM 103 D (Solution-D) microphone with the Digi 002. Please let me know how you have tested/ set it up.
Please explain what are the options in connecting the MIC with Digi? and which one is best for quality. It looks like AES 42 receiver is required between the MIC & Mixer/Digi 002.

Thanks.

Using Neumann TLM 103 D (Solution-D) with Digi 002
Re: Using Neumann TLM 103 D (Solution-D) with Digi 002
If the Digi 002 has only AES3 inputs (as I suspect) then to need to convert the AES42 from the mic. to AES3.
The best way is to use the Neumann DMI-2 or the RME AES42 unit for this as you have full control over the mic. from the PC.
This is what I use with my KM-D series (see HERE).
Otherwise use the Neumann connection kit - this will power the mic. and convert the AES42 to AES3, but you don't have the computer control of the mic. here.
I hope this helps.

The mic is interfaced via AES42, and while there are now some true AES42 input devices around, the Didi isn't one of them. So you'll need an AES42 interface (such as Neumann's own selection) that provides the digital phantom power and remote control facilities needed by the mic, and outputs either AES3 or S/PDIF for onward recording in your system.

Thanks John & Hugh. That very well confirmed the setup.
John - read your review/thread on recording with the KMDs. That's great. I noted from your thread that Digital hasn't (or will not) become mainstream. I wonder why? It looks great!
Also, please comment on my setup below (I do not have tons of experience but tried/&try lots of different recording setups as a serious hobbyist).
The Neumann's DIGITAL solution (TLM 103 D /w Neumann's Connection Kit) looks really good for what I do - record vocals as close to the actual voice as possible, with least hiss/added noise, in a recording studio. My speaker is male, with great base voice (almost no highs).
Thanks

Maybe it will, in time, acceptance will speed up when console and DAW manufacturers include AES42 inputs. Now it's Neumann with the DMI-2 and DMI-8, RME and Marian sound cards.

If you can afford it, it's best to get the DMI-2 as you can control the mic. from the computer - setting sample rate, level, etc. With the connection kit you have to state the sample rate when you purchase it. If you need any changes it has to go to someone who has a DMI-2.
But it *will* work perfectly with the connection kit - just less flexible.
And the built-in peak limiter is a boon as it eliminates digital clipping if you accidently overload.
