I have a tascam dr22wl portable stereo recorder. It suddenly stopped working -- won't turn on at all -- and it's past warranty. So I figured I would just wire its two condenser mics to XLR plugs and use them at home as an extra stereo pair.
I can't get them to work though. I wired ground to pin 1, positive to ,2 and negative to 3 . I also tried reversing positive and negative in case the colors weren't standard.
What am I missing here? What else can I try?
Xlr plug wiring
Re: Xlr plug wiring
If you mean the mic capsules built into the top of the recorder, I expect they are electret mics that require a dc bias voltage on one of the two connecting wires, and the unbalanced audio comes from the other, with the cable screen carrying the return currents from both. If I'm right, the mics are not compatible at all with balanced mic inputs or phantom power.

Dang indeed.
I am sure they could be made to work but by the time you have bought the bits, resistors, zeners etc and faffed about you would have done better to buy a pair of very cheap Behringer capacitor mics?
Dave.
