Mixer automatically cutoff?

Hello all expert,

I'm facing a problem with my mixer.
I use my mixer (Soundcraft EFX12) to output the sound source (mic + pc) to the speaker in a stage. Recently the output music from the speaker is weird. It act like there's a virtual compressor that only output the music that the volume is loud. If my music is soft at the beginning, the output will be automatically cut off the soft music, only output when the music is loud. Do any one here know what happened?

Sounds like you have a noise gate (what you're describing is the opposite of a compressor) in the chain somewhere, assuming there isn't a fault with the gear.

Turn off the 'expander' knobs on the dbx processor.

If you haven't accidentally added a noise gate then this sounds very much like a connection starting to go bad. The first thing to check would be insert jacks. If you've had something plugged into the insert jacks for a while and then take it out the contacts could have become contaminated and stop passing small signals - this was a big problem back when smoking was allowed in studios/venues.

Yes, I think The Elf is right. Check the output of the mixer is okay with headphones plugged into the mixer. Assuming that is fine, then the chances are your DBX processor's expander settings are inappropriate, and turning the sound down when it's quiet. You shouldn't really need to use an expander on a system like that, anyway.

Finally I just bypass the DBX processor, it works!
