Hey
I own the Roland Juno Alpha 1. It only have one oscillator + one sub osc.
But you can also select a little mix of waveforms.
So my question is: if I want to emulate a patch I really like from a 3 oscillator synth into the Juno Alpha -what is the main oscillator closest to shape that sound. What is the “boss” of the oscillators in a patch so to speak.
Now I have no silly illusions or recreating the patch as such, but I wonder how one synth architecture translates the closest to a simpler synth.
As you can tell I only get the gist of how synthesis works. But I believe this would be a fun learning experience. And if I’m lucky maybe I’ll get some cool patches too.
Thanks

The Alpha was always a pretty thin-sounding, bare-bones machine. I don't know what facilities it has on-board, but hopefully something below can get you going.
You can use a pulse waveform and modulate the pulse width with an LFO to create a simulation of the movement between two closely-tuned oscillators, and also add chorus to help the illusion. A tiny amount of vibrato can also help in a mix, but it would work better if you have a second LFO decoupled from the PWM.
Some external chorus, flanging, pitch shift and phasing is always an option. A bit of delay will help greatly too.
This is all pretty much what we did to thicken up the sound of the old Junos back in the day.
