Midi expression controller

Post by DanielBeach »

Hi,

I could use a controller for sending midi CC messages, and also for controlling parameters in soft synths and Logic etc.

Could people recommend what I might like to look at, as I’m a bit confused as to which tools can do what.

I’d like to have sliders to control a few CCs (expression, volume, vibrato etc), and then sliders and knobs to control volume and panning etc whilst mixing.

If it happened to have some pads so I could experiment with those for percussion and beats/loop triggering that could be useful.

Not sure if I need a control surface, a basic midi controller, or a small keyboard with lots of controls?

Thanks,

Daniel

I wonder if even the Akai Professional APC Mini Controller might do it? Nice and cheap :-)

The Korg nano line works well.

Or have a look at Novation Launchcontrol XL. I use it dawless via a usb-midi host, but I think it should have some nice templates for regular daw-use, and is fully customizable mapping CCs whichever you need.

Akai LPD-8 is a good starter controller I often recommend. It works really nicely.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I need to stay really simple on this - at the end of the day controlling about 3 or 4 midi CC controls is what I need - volume, expression, vibrato etc. Simple!
