Ada8200 vs octopre adat inputs

Post by Guitarking »

Goodmorning

I have been using the behringer ada8200 with my rme babyface to record drums and like it. Sometimes though i wish i had better mic pres/conversion (cleaner) to record e.g. a 4 mic guuitar or piano or guitar vocal setup.

Would the focusrite octopre give me those cleaner mic inputs compared to the ada8200?

Instead, I was also thinking of buying a second hand rme babyface or babyfac pro fs. In case of the latter, id have a nice upgrade (which fixes some wishes i had e.g a pad and real line inputs and more juice in the headphones). I was hoping then to slave my old babyface into the new via spdif. I could get 6 good inluts then (2 micpres of the pro fs, 2 line inputs of the pro fs and the 2 mic inouts from the old bf connected through spdif). Has anyone done this/know if my thoughts here are.ccrrect?

I think you might be overcomplicating buying a 2nd babyface just to get the mic preamps and better headphone amp ?

There are lots of different versions of the Octopre - all of which are better than the AD8200 in my opinion.

You don't say what your budget is ? but take a look at the Audient ASP880/800 - which is a step up again from the Octopre, lots more flexibility in usage too - and unbeatable in that price range (IMO  )

Tnx!

880 looks good but above budget. Maybe later... tnx for bringing it to my attention.

Got my hands on a second hand babyface pro fs. This way i will have an up to date great soundcard which deals with some minor issues i had. Also it will give me at least 2 more good preamps to at least do the vocal multiple guitar thing... and it was more affordable ;-)

How would 880 pres compare to bf pro fs quality wise?

I've never used the babyface so can't say ? But I'm sure they will be fine - RME stuff is usually excellent.

Sometimes it's not worth getting too hung up on the details......but that's another thread :)

I've heard the Clarrett Octopre's are now discontinued, which I thought was the best model. Focusrite likes to do that though unfortunately, like the 4pre, Clarett 8preX, etc.
