In the 90’s, quite a few modules appeared (Yamaha, Roland, Korg etc) with ‘To Host’ serial ports (8-pin mini-din) as one of the (usually switchable) options for MIDI connections to PCs. Effectively the precursor to the single-cable USB connector.
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an 8 pin din to USB connector that has been proven to work for MIDI control from a PC with such modules?
90’s ‘To Host’ serial Connection to USB?

Weren't they intended to connect to the Macs of the time? I know that my MOTU Digital Timepiece had a similar host connector which connected to one of the ports on a Mac.

I haven't reviewed in detail, but I suspect that different manufacturers supported either Mac or PC, or maybe both, depending on their allegiances. Most of the synth modules seem to be 'to PC Host'. Whereas MOTU were always more associated with Macs. But it is probably the same serial protocol with slightly different settings!

They were generally RS422 (IIRC) and could connect to both Mac and PC. I used to have a Roland Sound Canvas connected to a Compaq Presario using such a cable.
