All rounder wired/wireless headphone suggestions?

Post by Dave71 »

Hello.
I’m looking for some recommendations for a reasonably priced (£150 ish) set of ‘all rounder’ headphones.
At home I mainly practice bass / guitar playing along to I tunes and occasionally tinker with GarageBand for some rough mixing for rehearsal purposes (Scarlett 2i2 interface)
However I’d also like something to use out of the house (iPhone/iPad) and Bluetooth would be very useful.

Was looking at the Audio Technical Ath-m50xBT2 which have the option of wired or Bluetooth.

Any thoughts.
Ta.

Recent purchase on my part to replace previous model with serious structural deficiencies but great sound:

So far so good. Similar impressive sound but much more robust design and materials.

Not Bluetooth.

You could make your choice of wired headphones and add a cheap bluetooth receiver. I find doing that gives me the headphones I want with BT wireless connectivity when I need it. I can also use IEMs when I need extra isolation, or open-back cans when I need to hear the doorbell, phone, wife or cat!

The choice of headphone is rather subjective, but Shure, AKG, Audio-Technica or BeyerDynamic should be considered. The SRH-840, DT770 or ATH-M50x would be good choices, I think.

You'll be getting as many recommendations as people answering, possibly X5 :D

My all rounder in that price range used to be the ATH-M50x but now it's the Rode NTH-100. I haven't even put the ATH on since I bought the Rode in May.

As for Bluetooth, I'm holding out for the new LE standard to become generally available and built in to more devices.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

I'm with 'resistorman' ... The Rodes have it...

... and I also agree with what 'sonics' suggests...

If Bluetooth is a must then I'd recommend having a look at some of the Sennheiser options.
Assuming you can also find a pair that's comfortable. I ended up with a set of Sony's for my commute, the sound wasn't as good as the Sennheiser but they were much more comfortable for me.

Thanks for the input. Was only considering Bluetooth purely down to the lack of mini jack sockets on newer phones these days, so annoying having to use adapters!! Comfort is a must so I’ll have a trek around shortly to see if I can find a retailer with a healthy stock. York or Newcastle are my closest options
Cheers

Gear4music are based in York and generally have a healthy set of stock wired up for listening.
