Yamaha DM2000 need help

Post by Alaville Studio »

Ok no one uses it anymore, but I love its automix, and out of the question to mix "with the mouse" in my recording studio.
I am facing a weird and very annoying phenomenon, if anyone of you had the same problem please let me know your solution:

When an Automix memory is full, it displays "Automix Memory Full",
(weird because I didn't make that many changes in duration and number, and in this case of course I understand that we can't add information)
BUT what is very serious is that we can't EVEN simply READ IT ANYMORE!!
When you want to make a Recall Memory of this Automix memory, it displays the NIGHTMARE MESSAGE :
"Automix Memory Full", and refuses to load it.

Tried everything like putting it in Smart Media, then deleting it on the DM 2000 then reloading it on the DM 2000 but nothing worked!!
Thanks at least for reading me!

The first thing I always do when there are digital gremlins is do a hard reset of the device.

Before turning on power switch on the DM2000, DM2000V2 and DM2000VCM mixer follow the procedure below.

Press and hold the [AUX 1] and [DISPLAY] button in the Aux Select section while turning on the power switch.

The DM2000, DM2000V2 and DM2000VCM will commence the reset sequence.

CAUTION:Please note all User data will be lost.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Thank you so much for this information .
I will try, but before 2 more questions if you don't mind :
First I'm surprised by the HARD RESET process because until now when I was doing a reset, I was doing that :
(Turning on power switch while pressing on STORE Button, and then have "initialize process" displayed, and then Clic the proposition : ENTER on the screen )

Does that mean that the result of the process that you show in your message
( AUX 1 + DISPLAY) is " Harder" than this one I use :(ON + STORE etc ...) ???

And From your experience of this HARD RESET do we loose for instance all the SM memories and automix memories which are inside the DM 2000 V2,
as mentionned in the process you show in your message ??
Best regards,

Patrick

I don't have a DM2000, I simply searched for the hard reset procedure. A hard reset will return it to factory settings, all user data will be lost, so back up if you can. There's no guarantee that this will fix your problem, but it often will clear out the gremlins, and at least give you a clean slate to start diagnosis.

It's been a long time since I used a DM2000, so take any hints with that in mind!!
There was software which let you do complete backups of the desk to a PC/Mac, including automixes. From memory there were 2 pieces of software to download, and it took ages to get the system to work, but once it was set up it was easy for future back-ups. If you haven't already got this, and it still exists for modern computers, it'll be worth doing as it'll not matter what a hard reset does to your desk. We transferred between 2 different DM2000 desks successfully.

Edit... The software still exists..

I'm almost certain it's the USB/MIDI driver and the "Studio Manager" software you need.

Thanks a lot for this information .
I think I'll save on SMART MEDIA as far as it's such a big mess between the versions and updates of Yamaha , with the versions and updates of Apple .. ;)
but I will keep that valuable link you mentioned in your post

Hello dear friends, I wanted to keep you informed of developments since you kindly answered me.
In fact, large capacity automix memories can no longer be read because the total automix memory is "almost" full !
I imagine that there is a kind of "buffer" memory to read which is still free enough to read the "small automixes",
but not the big ones!
But if you erase the biggest automix memories,
after having saved them in smart Media, the other memories become readable again.
Thanks and Best Regards
