tl audio ebony a1 or ivory dual pre?

Post by Michael Dow »

hey hey long time no speak, hope you're all really well :)

I need two fairly decent instrument inputs to record bass and guitar with. As at the moment i only have one inst input on my trackmaster pro

i was originally going to get a meek twinq but they are a bit more pricey and not sure if they are any better than these two.

has anyone used both of these and can say which is beter and worth getting? Or anything else of around th same price range? (3-400ish)

thanks!!

See if you can find a used TLA Indigo compressor.
Comes with 2 inputs for HI Z and is better built than the Ivory & UI suspect the Ebony will be no better.

But there are so many other alternatives out there, why stick to just TLA stuff?

+1 for the Indigo compressor. The parametric EQ is similarly equipped and frequently gets used as bass pre-amp here.

also has anyone tried the tl audio VI-1? Seems intersting, but is it out of date now? Would it be worth using it with a patch bay for use with a DAW? Or even just permanently run certain synths through it and into th DAW?

2 ins, 2outs. Leave 1U of air above it, which is enough to slide in a Ginsters peppered steak slice and warm it up nicely.

There's a recent thread somewhere that compares the Indigo range (favourably) with the Ivory one. I'm not familiar with the Ivory series, but I do know that when launched it was rather cheaper than the Indigo, which one might expect to be reflected in their relative quality.

The Indigo range, while it lasted, seemed to occupy a mid-market positioning that has since rather been squeezed out.
