Sonic Core/ Creamware A16 Ultra - any opinions?

Post by Microwave »

Hi,
I've recently got hold of a a Soundtracs PC Midi 24 analogue desk, so I'm looking at buying an AD/DA adat convertor to use alongside my Fireface 800 in order to get back to mixing out of the box.
The Sonic Core (which I gather must be Creamware's new name) would give 16 channels of AD/DA for £700 which sounds like a good deal and is within my sort of price range. I could stretch to £1000 and go for an RME Adi8 but of course that would give me only eight extra channels.
From what I could gather the A16 gives decent quality (I'm not expecting it to be any more than decent at that price), but I read that some people found the cooling fan to be too loud. Anyone using one? Any opinions/ suggestions very welcome.
A.

I have the older (light grey) A16 Ultra and it is a totally rock solid, great sounding bit of kit. Fan? If mine's got one then I don't hear it. Sound? Excellent. Otherwise, a simple, no-nonsense feature set that just works.

I got mine when I went deskless, so this handles my synths and old outboard and does a wonderful job. Totally happy and almost a unique product at this pricepoint.

Sounds good here!

I have the blue version. The fan was part of the first generation.

There is now a new black version that looks like it doesn't have a fan. There is also the XLR version.

I haven't tried the new one but if the old ones are to go by then you won't be displeased.

I have mine synced to the old Creamware syncplate and have never had trouble with it.

Thanks guys.
I think I will go for it, it makes more sense than two separate eight channel units (less clocking issues) and it works out cheaper than any of the alternatives.
