good evening yall..
i'm looking to test out some vintage converters but it seems that most are just that... converters only, not interfaces.
what in your opinion would be a good route in getting these signals through the converter and into my daw? and also, I dont want an interface to impart any sound to the conversion, I want the converter to be the last part of the chain before it hits my daw.
thanks again.

Let us know the make/model of converter and the computer (Mac/Windows, which version) and we can probably help you figure it out. (But the answer may be as expensive as just buying an affordable modern interface, which probably performs better!)

Very likely. Still, if you want to experiment...

A/D converters must output some kind of digital format and no interface should colour a digital input so you just need an interface that can accept that format.

So much information carried in a name...

A DAW interface with the appropriate digital interfacing to match that of your converter.
Fir example, if your converter has an ADAT output, the RME Digiface USB is a great option. I use an RME AIOPro internal interface card which accepts AES, ADAT and SPDIF from external converters.
I dont want an interface to impart any sound to the conversion, I want the converter to be the last part of the chain before it hits my daw.
Any DAW interface with a digital input simply passes the audio data. It can't alter the sound... but make sure you understand the requirements for proper clocking of the converter / interface and configure the system appropriately.
...and finally, as said above, unless you already have a DAW interface with an appropriate digital input, buying something to work with a vintage converter will probably cost more than the converter, and its own converters will almost certainly perform better.
