Subharmonicon, or Buchla Easel.

Subharmonicon, or Buchla Easel.
My partner is nagging me to get another synth, it’s very ironic.
Also, a totally pointless comparison, but other things apply apart from synthesis capability.
She said "what happened to that little black box you had? it fitted in the car, you used to play it in London when I was at my hospital appointments, you really enjoyed it, why don’t you get another one? you need something to do while you’re there"
I didn’t tell her how much the first one cost, I think she thought it was £300.
I’m now investigating other self-contained instruments that are vaguely affordable, the only one that’s caught my eye is the Subharmonicon, but it’s got one drawback compared with the Easel, it’s not a nice little black box, with a lid, so no boxes ticked on my partners behalf.
The only other option would be an EMS Synthi AKS, that would keep her happy, but only until she saw the price, the Buchla seems cheap in comparison, with the. Subharmonicon coming in as the only realistic solution, and even then, it’s expensive in my book,
Another dilemma, I’m getting so used to finding stuff cheap, and I’m holding out, hoping to find an EMS or a Buchla in my local charity shop, but maybe I’m being a bit too hopeful.

Just buy the bloomin Buchla. You've been going on about it for years.

They are very, very different synths Tony! I think you might like the Subharmonicon for some things but it has a few quirks which can be slightly challenging on occasion and due to the nature of the polyrhythmic sequencers it often sounds different when you turn it off and on again, even if none of the controls have been changed.
You love the Easel, so I'd go ahead and follow your heart

The SubH really shines (imo) when you start adding external control, clock, and filters. This alone makes the Buchla a no-brainer. The SubH might be more immediately affordable, but you'll end up spending 3-4x that by the time you're done.

Hugh, even if I wanted to buy one, see my secondary monitors thread, as usual, can’t get one or locate one here in Europe, can’t seem to get anything in fact, don’t know what’s happening to the supply chains.

Damn, I think so too, if I can find one.

I'm a great believer in getting what you truly want (all considerations of cost and practicality aside - we all have our limits, of course), rather than compromising. At the point where you have that magical talisman that's going to transform your life... the 'what ifs' are finally put to bed and it's all about *your* abilities - no more excuses.

Do they actually produce the keyboard one anymore?

It seems they were discontinued, but they've announced a new one. (4.14 in the video.)

Interesting, also cheap-er, I’m waiting for the drawbacks.
So now I’ve got to wait until this thing appears, whenever that will be.

Might drive down second-hand prices a bit if there's a new model available though.

Probably not, there’s a whole bunch of people that think certain models sounded best, normally the older ones, even though it may not be true, you know what it’s like with this stuff, my Easel sounded just fine, can’t imagine it any better, and that was a new one.
I’d get that Command module, but it hasn’t got a case with a built in keyboard, my main reason for buying it.
Re: Subharmonicon, or Buchla Easel.
I wonder if they'll do a new Easel-K. Secondhand prices for Thunders are astronomical. I was surprised to see Buchla offering the Sensel Morph overlay as a bundle on their website. I mean, it's fun, but, not really the same. I guess it makes sense though.
