It was possibly the era when they had bands on that were ‘bubbling under’.
So they weren’t top 30 yet but top 100 or so.
I missed the performance as this was years after I used to regularly watch it.
If I could recall the name of the band I might find it on Youtube.
I worked on it once when it was at Elstree studios back in the 1990s, not that much fun to work on as I recall, I was doing ‘sound assistant’ duties as a freelance.
I preferred working on Eastenders but would prefer to watch TOTP.
