publication dates.
Re: publication dates.
They are quite well hidden, aren't they? I had this discussion with my colleagues quite recently because I struggled to find them too... However, it is quite logical once you know!
Go to the Home Page (little house icon) > Information (in grey bar) > scroll down to Information > Publication Dates...
Or just click here: https://www.soundonsound.com/information/publication-dates
The UK July issue (and online/tablet version) is out today!
(The US/Canada edition is in a week's time)
Go to the Home Page (little house icon) > Information (in grey bar) > scroll down to Information > Publication Dates...

Re: publication dates.
Thank you Hugh for some (logical?) reason I always start at "Magazine" and never get there!
Anyway, just got back from dahn-tahn and got the magazine and I shall have something to say about that phantom power supply later when I have garnered more information!
Dave.

Dave.
Dave, there's a dedicated page that Hugh has given the link to, but in addition we have just added a dedicated PUBLICATION DATES button in the grey menu bar on the main MAGAZINE page to make life easier and more logical.

Re: publication dates.
Excellent, much more intuitive.
Though I do like the surprise of the new magazine appearing when it's not expected.

No problem - we can easily build in a date randomiser.

This practice stems from the time it typically took, historically, to ship magazines into overseas territories. If it took 3-4 weeks by ship to arrive in Australia and then get distributed into local stores there, for example, the magazine's cover month would look old and everyone believed this would affect sales. So big publishers tended to christen their magazine with a later cover month so that by the time it arrived in far-flung places, it still looked very current on the newsstands.
(And once you've adopted this practice, you can't skip a month, of course.)
Another practice was to avoid cover 'month' altogether and opt instead for a Volume & Issue Number policy, so the public were none the wiser when the mag went on sale there.

Re: publication dates.
Is there any thought to abolishing the monthly deadlines for the inet versions? It wouldn't work for the hard copies but what if the magazine was on a "flow" based model? i.e.: as articles are completed they are posted so in theory, as a reader, there could be something new to explore every few days until the months quota of articles and such are all posted.
Crazy idea. Might take pressure off the writers for the more lengthy or deeper researched articles?

So it was all started by Sheep Shearing Monthly and everyone else followed their lead?
Reliably fallible.
Re: publication dates.
Wait! Hold up.
How have we managed to get two simultaneous sheep-pun threads going?
No one will take us sheariously now.
