Broken PMs?

I've had a "you have one new message" for over a year now with no messages in my inbox or outbox, and I have sent and received messages in the past. There is no sign of the message I sent Dave with my one synth challenge submission yesterday, either. Here's a screenshot of the aggravating "new message" notice.

I *THINK* a message sits in the OutBox until it's read, then it moves to the "Sent items" box.
