Looking for feedback on my death metal mix

Post by Larphi »

Hi all,
I'm guitarist in Horror Within,a slamming death metal band from Montpellier, France (https://www.facebook.com/HorrorWithin).
For now, I'm in charge of everything concerning mixing / mastering, in DIY mode.
We have already released two singles:
https://horrorwithin.bandcamp.com/track/ceremonial-vortex-slam-worldwide-version
https://horrorwithin.bandcamp.com/track/the-ending-process

Regardless of the music, I would like to have your feedback concerning my job on these two songs.

Thank you in advance

Hi Larphi, and welcome to the SOS Forums! 8-)

As you've probably noticed by now, joining a very popular on-line forum simply to get listens and informed feedback for your music is unlikely to get many (if any) responses, as most members will regard it as spam from a stranger.

If on the other hand you join in with the spirit of the SOS Forums, reply to several posts by other members, and become part of our community, you will most definitely get support and feedback like everyone else here.

It's a 2-way thing ;)

Really not my genre so not a lot I can say, but what I did notice is that there's not a great deal of separation between your bass and guitar lines. I think this isn't helped by how you've got the guitars panned. As well as the wide panned stuff (good!) I'm still hearing a lot of the low mid of the guitars when I listen to the mid signal and I think that's muddying things up a bit with the bass.
Aside from that, what Martin said^^^. Come join in if you want to get better feedback than mine. ;)

I do still listen to various forms of metal, although not nearly to the extent that I used to. I liked the tracks and I do have a fair amount to say, but like others I don't want to get into typing paragraphs of feeback/opinions until I know someone will at least be back to read it :)

Hey !
Don't worry, I understand. And I don't want to bother you. The FB link is just about who we are.
Concerning mixing and mastering, I really love that but I'm a complete newbie with 0 experience, so any kind of advice is good for my experience.

About some references :

Less "aggressive" tone : https://youtu.be/w6nFXXcJXf4

And I just discover that, and I really like the sound :

So here are some examples of what kind of tone I would like to achieve.

Thank you for your help !!!
