Hello,

I am not hundred percent sure that this is the correct sub forum but here it goes...

I decided on Intel i9-11900K.
I chose the ROG MAXIMUS XIII HERO for the motherboard. Z590 Chipset It supports 128GB Ram +3200MHz.

Yet there are no 128GB 3200MHz Ram sets in the QVL list...
There is only one 3200GHz 4x32 128GB Ram set in the Asus QVL list and that is G.SKILL F4-3200C16Q-128GTZN

However on the G.Skill QVL list for this particular Asus card, that particular Ram set doesn't come up!?

Corsair QVL list doesn't have anything for Asus card in 3200GHz 4x32 128GB configuration either... What's going on?

I have a chip that provides 3200MHz the card is advertising 128GB ram @3200MHz in 4x configuration, but I have to get 2666MHz?

Does anybody run similar builds? I am baffled... Please help!

128 GB of RAM is pretty extreme. Wow. :)

The QVL means e.g. ASUS have actually plugged it in and tested it works. I imagine testing a 128GB kit wasn't at the top of their list as there are going to be much more of the lower capacity kits sold.

It ain't what you don't know. It's what you know that ain't so.

That makes a lot of sense... Although, either because of a page malfunction or they just added just a day ago I did find several (4x32) Corsair's Ramset. But this time, at the Corsair QVL page, those Rams don't show up for the Asus board in question... Matter fact no 128 GB ram over 2666MHz...

I've written to Corsair, hopefully they will say "Don't worry!" Because I do...

If I understand correctly there are now 128GB kits on ASUS's QVL?

That means ASUS are guaranteeing the kits on the list work and provide support if they don't. It's unnecessary for the RAM to be on Corsair's and ASUS's QVL.

To be honest you're unlikely to have problems with RAM and a lot of people don't bother with the QVL. But if you want to for peace of mind feel free to do so.

Strangely enough, Asus added few Corsairs to their QVL list a couple of days ago :)

Corsair still doesn't show compatibility with the Asus mobo but they wrote me back and okayed the mobo with mail... Strange but welcomed...

So, I am okay now... Set to go :)

What are you going to be using it for? Music production, 8K 3D Video rendering or running multiple virtual machines?

What system spec do you currently use and what made you decide 8 cores 128Gb Ram is the right combination? I am not saying its wrong but curious as to why you made this choice?

What software are you running?

Sure, why not!

I'm mainly running Cubase 10,5 and plugins...
I do soundtracks with hundreds and hundreds of channels plus tones of samples, and whatnot... Hence the 128GB... For music production, you need the single thread performance rather than multicorevaganza... And that's the logic behind my shopping list... Previously I had 6 cores and 64GB...

So, everything arrived and I am about to put them together... Excitiiiing...

I guess it depends on whether its your hobby or occupation. If I needed such a machine for my work and it was paying its way, as a business tool, then I would be looking at Professional Workstations, HP Z6/Z8 cos they can take 256/512Gb and some of the higher models up to 2Tb RAM, a server inside a Desktop case.

Also they take EEC memory which is a lot cheaper to source (eBay) than desktop RAM cos no one ever wants it !! That was why I bought Z600s, I loaded them with 64Gb RAM and the server has 128Gb and I could run endless numbers of Virtual Machines with resources/power to spare. I had over 20 servers running and 30 clients simulating 6 different offices on a VLan whilst I wrote the Microsoft System Centre scripts I/they needed.

Whilst I can understand your theory behind the choice, desktop systems are not really designed to be hammered like Business systems.

It is better if you spend your money in a new Ryzen with 16 cores and less RAM. Don´t need more of 64 GB, more is only for virtualization servers. For music the best, it is to have a lot of cores and really fast M.2. disk with 5000 Mbps or more.
Another important part is to have the minimal sound in your computer, for this you will need a fanless power supply, minimum model of quadro card (low comsuption) and put the new model of magnetics fan from Corsair used specially to reduce the dbs and good freeze for your CPU. Good luck.

There are probably lots of heavy users of sample libraries that would disagree with that.

64GB is a hefty amount for purely audio editing/mixing tasks, but once you start getting into lots of VI's and libraries it starts to get munched up very quickly.
