New Smilies?
New Smilies?
In the grand scheme of digital magazines and forums this would be a low priority but is it possible to add new Smilies? (A beer pint for one!)
Are the Smilies a specialized format? I assume so.
Is it a format members could access and create new smilies for the use of all?

Perhaps a contest?

I'd quite like to see that too. A 'nuke em' one would be useful! Also we've got three 'shocked' smilies. Would it be possible to merge them?

Re: New Smilies?
The smilies go back so long that I think each and every one of them has a special place in someone's heart
It is possible to add new ones, but at present there are a lot of things happening behind the scenes. The request has been noted but I doubt it'll be a priority anytime soon!

Depending on copyright conditions, it would be trivially easy to convert that to a reduced width .png file with a fully transparent background.
Just sayin'

There's no harm in collating a list of requests here now. We can sort out the details and specific images later. So far I have:
New Addition Requests:
Beer Pint
Nuke Em
Irony
Head-slap / Doh
Current Smilie updates:
Condense the three ‘shocked’ smilies into one.
Any more?

Re: New Smilies?
If we could sum up "no digital isn't losing anything from the signal, analogue is adding distortion" into a single emoji we could speed up a lot of discussions?
Also maybe a "there's not a lot of point of spending lots of money on outboard if your room isn't treated" one as well?

I'm not against the idea of updating/enhancing/adding more smileys/smilies/emoticons, so we'll bear it in mind during some future updates we are working on already.

I've always admired the Register's "I'll get my coat" smiley, perhaps because I've so often felt it applied to me.

Might not be straightforward to do this. We have a mixture of smilies because the phpBB software came with one set, but the legacy posts from the previous software didn't display the new ones so we ported over some of the most used legacy smilies as well.
My use of the Beamup smilie as a 'signature' is a perfect example.

Is it about a bicycle?
Re: New Smilies?
I’ll get my coat - Yes!
Or perhaps a foot in mouth one?
Maybe a better SOS one?
A large stylized question mark?
A burning synth?
A laughing Nob-like biscuit?
A headphone wearing smiley that explodes?
A mini mankini?
Sorry, too much caffeine this morning.

I don’t have many programming or art skills but when the time comes I’d be happy to help in any way.
