Gig season is almost upon us!

Post by Dave B »

Well ... it's almost upon me anyway - I can't speak for the rest of you guys. :D

So today, whilst the sun was shining, it was a case of pulling out all my gear from storage, sorting it out and re-arranging things so that the stuff I need is accessible rather than the mad pile it has been since last summer!

More importantly, I brought all the PA gear home to test it all still works ok. Mixers were dusted off (well ... the case was anyway), the 'new' rack mounted wifi system was tested (along with a wired ethernet adapter over usb for QSC) and various monitors (15", 12", 2x10" and a 10" wedge) tested along with the EV 12 tops I have and the Yamaha DXR10s and DSX12. All systems checked and working perfectly. And sounding great on my patio.

All of which is lovely, but I'd forgotten how tiring it is lugging all this gear around! I need to get back onto the weights in the gym and not just the cardio ...

;)

So bring on the end of June - the first weekend after the 21st, I have 2 live sound gigs booked already. Woo. Hoo.

I do love an optimistic outlook. It provides balance.

I, too, have some bits and pieces starting to appear in my diary but I've chosen to record them very lightly in soft metaphorical pencil.

I must say though I have invested in some very nice bags for my baby Yamaha's so somewhere in my dystopian perspective there are a few positive inklings.

No gigs lined up but I've got a radio interview on Friday.

Which station ?

Cautious optimisim here. The bank holiday test is almost over and when results are in a decision can be made. Everything is in the hands of the GB public.

First booking is on 3rd July (which I believe is an indoor event of some kind). Then it's 21st and 30th August with the 21st being an outdoor event, so that one at least should go ahead.

We've had a couple of practice sessions and there is a lot of work to be done, but we'll get there.

I’d love to start gigging, but I’m unprepared, it’s also a real pain, my music partner has a five octave Marimba to lug around, that takes ages to assemble, and I still haven’t found a decent electric piano.

First post-Covid gig for me this afternoon. I was kind of nervous which is unusual for me, but it was a good day.

Sorry, missed this earlier. Local digital radio - https://yorkmix.com/radio/ I'm on at 8:10 in the morning apparently.
I didn't know there was an 8:10 in the morning...?

I was on at 3am once, but I got there at 6 pm the previous day to set up, I thought I was on at 8.
I’ll never play at a "rave" ever again.

I had a listen to Ben and Laura's playback... rapidly lost the feeling in my ears, followed by the sensation of my brains dribbling out and across the table, being chased by the will to live. I had forgotten local radio was that bad... I skipped around a bit, but the lack of time checks meant I couldn't find 08:10 so I gave up. I'm sure you sounded great, though...

All that for nothing as I meant this coming Friday! Sorry Hugh!

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

Normally those are perfectly sensible suggestions but I'm afraid I mix in circles where those tools are ineffective or might even have a rousing effect on the herd.
