Jam Origin guitar/MIDI conversion in MOTU Digital Performer

Post by Gone To Lunch »

We are having trouble using JO in MOTU Digital Performer 9.52. OS 10.13.6, with a MOTU 828 Mk3 Firewire.

In Stand Alone mode, JO latency reads as 256, but within DP it reads as 2048 with an over the limit warning, even though the 828 is set to 256. 2048 is twice the upper limit of the 828.

We have tried trashing the DP preference files as suggested by MOTU tech support, but makes no difference.

Does it work and at an acceptable latency for you? If so, then ignore the warning.

Reliably fallible.

Does it work ok as a standalone device or are you getting bad latency then as well?

Midi Guitar V2.21? Using the VST rather than the AU version? Sample rate 44.1kHz?

Thanks for your replies.

We know it works stand alone, but the warning limit prevents it from operating at all in the DAW.

We don't really need live capability, just a reliable means of converting audio to midi - can you recommend anything else?

If you've used the VST version (as Jam Origin recommend), is it worth just trying the AU version (if you haven't already)?

We have now tried both the AU and the VST versions, and the problem persists.

I was blown away by this software last time I looked at it. I should persevere. Maybe try another DAW.

Indeed. But we don't have another DAW.

Their site includes detailed instructions for DP, so they clearly expect it to work therein.

Cakewalk is free on PC and Reaper is a free trial for PC and Mac.
If it works on one of those then you know it's not a problem with the JO download or with the rest of your set-up / routing.

It worked properly in Reaper.

I have'nt t been using it much lately as I felt the latency was quite high , I put it down to whatever soft synth I was controlling in Logic and that seemed to change depending on the preset I selected in Alchemy or Kontakt Free.

I wonder if the result is the same using the included sounds .

My last impression was latency hsd been better on my older versions of Logic and OS , but may well have beern the type of sounds I was playing back then
, mostly slow attack pads anyhow.

Hmm. Unfortunately that does rather stick the problem into the DP box, not something I know anything about I'm afraid. :(

I generally use the included sounds when tracking and then swap them out for my preferred options later.

Eitherway it's still a great plugin although I do tend to just "jam" out atmospheric stuff when using it.

I liked the organs on a Boss SY1 when I had one , havent found the same feel so far with the plugin .

Problem sorted.

It was just a question of setting the plug-in to real time use in the DP mini menu.

Shame they didn't explain that on their support page...
