Episode 41: John Grant

John came into the limelight with his band the Czars who started out in 1994. He released his first solo album ‘Queen Of Denamrk’ in 2010 which was named album of the year by Mojo magazine. John has an immense ability to write heartfelt songs with a combination of profound and humourous themes.

His subsequent albums ‘Pale Green Ghosts’, ‘Grey Tickles and Black Pressure’ and ‘Love is Magic’ have all showcased his talents as a supreme singer, songwriter and self-confessed synth-lover! His latest album ‘Boy From Michigan’ was released in June this year and sounds fantastic - I highly recommend you see him on tour later this year!

Kyoka is a supremely talented sound artist and musician who fuses her love of sound with experiments in Physics, Neuroscience and more. She was the first female solo artist on the Raster-Noton label and had access to the EMS Studio in Sweden where she was introduced to Buchla synths.

She's known for her frantic, highly articulate sounds which combine foley recordings and fragmented vocals alongside a sporadic rhythm track. She was on the bill for the Warehouse Project in Manchester, curated by Aphex Twin, and she recently collaborated with Ian from Lakker under the name 'Lena Anderson'.

Episode 43: AK/DK

AK/DK are like nothing you've seen before. Two people each armed with a drum kit, a million synths and the desire to make it all (mostly) up on the spot. They create a hypnotic frezy of sound, energy, and what I'm calling "vibes" to enchant and delight their now very sweaty audiences.

They've released three albums to critical acclaim, with 2020's 'Shared Particles' showcasing and encapsulating their high-octane live sound better than ever. Their incendury live shows are not to be missed. Witness their ascent to superstardom from October, when they get back on tour!

Episode 45: Henry Kaiser

Henry Kaiser is, in his words, first and foremost a diver - he's been visiting Antarctica on research projects and making films there since 2001. He admits he's probably spent more time making music; collaborating with the likes of Derek Bailey, Herbie Hancock, Terry Riley, David Lindley and many more - with over 300 albums to his name... and counting!

He's spent time travelling and recording in Norway, Madagascar and many far-flung corners of the planet - collaborating with his peers, contemporaries and fearlessly approaching his heroes. Henry has a wonderful world view and a refreshing approach to making music, stating that he simply "Gets out of the way" when the time comes to play.

EPISODE 46: HIGH CONTRAST

High Contrast aka Lincoln Barrett released his first record in 2001 and has since gone to be one of the worlds biggest Drum & Bass producers - with 6 studio albums to his name, a wealth of high-profile DJ sets all over the world and some of the most prestigious collaborations and remixes ever made.

His latest album 'Notes From The Underground' traces his jungle roots with a fresh take on the sparse and sample-heavy tracks which inspired him in the early days. He is the first voice you hear in the Trainspotting 2 film, having released the incendury 'Shotgun Mouthwash' for it's soundtrack. He's a really down to earth guy with an admirable outlook and 'no-boundaries' approach to musical exploration.
